A Promise to the People of Haiti

It has been one month since a devastating earthquake leveled Haiti's capitol, Port Au Prince. More than 200,000 people lost their lives. Thousands more were seriously injured. Millions have been affected. It is far worse than any pictures can describe.

Within minutes of the earthquake, Water Missions International was responding. Immediately efforts began to connect with our staff in Haiti and other ministry partners to gather information and begin a coordinated response. By morning, the entire Water Missions International's staff was racing to meet the needs of the people of Haiti. Understanding that lives were truly in the balance, staff and volunteers worked with persistent passion to assemble, ship, and install a record number of water systems.

In just 31 days, Water Missions International assembled and shipped more than 100 water treatment systems, including nearly 60 Living Water Treatment Systems and more than 40 Erosion Chlorinators with a combined capacity to produce half a million gallons of safe water each day. Thirty-one of these systems are now installed and providing water to thousands of needy people in hospitals, medical clinics, and Internally Displaced People camps. Never have we been able to accomplish so much so quickly.

But, there is much more to be done. This will be a long and difficult response. It will go on long after the media spotlight dims. Already, the headlines are focused on other things. Soon, Haiti will slip out of everyday conversation. We must not allow that to happen. Water Missions International is committed to meet both the immediate and long term needs for safe water for the people of Haiti. The needs are great. An entire nation is in need. We promise the people of Haiti that we will not forget them. Will you help us keep that promise?

Thank you for joining with us in this incredible first month. Since January 12, 2010, we have received $1,590,679.00 and we have on the ground in Haiti or in transit (by barge and ship) incurred expenses totaling $1,527,102.00. What a privilege to provide a channel for your generosity to meet the urgent need for safe water in Haiti.

Please, continue with us in meeting the needs of the people of Haiti.

Thank you for keeping us updated on the situation. I visit your website everyday to learn more about what is happening in Haiti. Keep the info coming (how many systems are in place, how many are in transit, how they are being moved, where they are located, how many people they serve).
Keep up the good work - you are saving many lives via your efforts.
