Volunteering at WMI is unique because you are
able to volunteer locally and have a global impact.
The water systems assembled in Charleston will
change the lives of the people that receive them.
You will be helping with this effort!
What kinds of volunteer opportunities
are available?
We have many different opportunities:
Production Facility: Help
assemble the Living Water™ Treatment Systems
that will provide safe water for people in
developing countries and disaster areas.
Office: Clerical and administrative
tasks requiring varying skill levels. Examples
are laminating, data entry, stuffing information
packets, and making phone calls.
Special Events: Assist
in putting on events such as exhibits, walks,
and fundraisers.
Presentations: Share what
WMI is doing to change lives. Make presentations
to civic clubs, churches, schools, and other
groups.
How do I become a volunteer?
First, complete a volunteer
application. After we receive your application,
our volunteer coordinator will contact you to
schedule an orientation and discuss how you would
like to be involved.
What is the time commitment?
Scheduling is flexible and can vary depending
on current projects. Whether you are able to volunteer
daily, weekly, or monthly, we welcome your participation.
Do you need volunteers on the weekends?
Office hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. The Production
Facility is open for volunteers Monday-Thursday
9am-5pm. We need volunteers during the week that
are able to commit to volunteering on a regular
basis. Some Saturdays are available for volunteers
to work in the Production Facility. Please contact
the Volunteer Coordinator if you are interested
in volunteering on a Saturday.
Should I keep track of my volunteer
hours?
The Volunteer Coordinator keeps track of volunteer
hours worked at WMI. If you are volunteering outside
of the Production Facility or Office, please turn
your hours into the Volunteer Coordinator.
What training is involved?
The best way to become familiar with WMI's needs
is to volunteer on a regular basis. No formal
training program is in place at this time. However,
WMI offers varying levels of difficulty within
each position so that volunteers can decide what
they are most comfortable doing. Once a volunteer
has committed to WMI by filling out an application
they are taken through Orientation, which includes
watching a video, being briefed by the Volunteer
Coordinator, reading and signing the Volunteer
Handbook, and touring the production facility.
What should I wear?
Production Facility volunteers should wear comfortable
clothing and closed-toe shoes.
If I am unable to volunteer on a scheduled
day, what should I do?
Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator as soon
as possible.
Can I bring a group of people to volunteer?
We are able to accommodate volunteer groups with
up to 12 people, depending on how much help is
needed in the Production Facility.
Can children and youth volunteer?
We would love to have the involvement of more
children and youth. If you are interested, please
contact the Volunteer Coordinator.
