In 2009 a team of researchers traveled to Colon, Honduras. They went to conduct a health impact study associated with Project SafeWater-Colon, a $4.6 million Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project designed to establish baseline statistics and provide sustainable access to safe water and sanitation. The study showed that there was "an approximate 52% reduction of clinical visits for diarrheal diseases in the 34 months after the community water system became fully operational."  It was printed in the winter 2010 publication "Practicing Anthropology".
