The Healthy Latrine™ is a low- cost yet sturdy, robust, aesthetic and durable alternative to sanitation access in developing countries.  Developed by Water Missions International, these Healthy Latrines™ are being used in Haiti, Honduras and Peru to provide access to adequate sanitation facilities to needy families and households in rural and sub-urban settlements lacking any other type of sewage facilities. 

The Healthy Latrine™ was developed to improve health and living conditions for children and adults because it is a well-known fact that 2.6 billion people around the world lack access to these types of facilities. Lack of proper sanitation represents more than half the sources of gastrointestinal diseases caused by waterborne bacteria, viruses and worms. The Healthy Latrine™ uses building materials available locally and a modern toilet that is healthier and easier to keep clean.
