Pakistan Flood Victims in Desperate Need of Safe Water

CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug. 30, 2010—It's the lack of safe water that is often the single biggest cause of illness in the wake of a natural disaster.

Water Missions International, an engineering relief and development Christian nonprofitworking in Pakistan, is currently shipping more water treatment systems to flood victims from their headquarters in Charleston, S.C.

Already assisting thousands of evacuees in the southern region of the country, Water Missions International is working now to send to the flood zone more of their unique, portable systems that can convert severely contaminated water to safe water within seconds.

  • Two water treatment systems in Pakistan now providing some 10,000 flood evacuees with their daily water needs.
  • Two systems left Charleston, S.C. warehouse  by truck bound for Atlanta airlift to Pakistan this week.
  • Sending two additional systems to the flood plane in Pakistan in the coming days.
  • A shortage of safe water can be the single biggest cause of death due to potentially fatal dehydrations and massive outbreaks of water-borne diseases like cholera, typhoid, as well as dysentery.

Water Missions International Facts:
  • Water Missions International is an engineering relief and development Christian nonprofit based in Charleston, SC.
  • Provide sustainable safe water solutions to people in 40 developing countries and disaster victims worldwide.
  • Water Missions International transforms communities long-term, whether moving quickly in natural disasters and war zones or customizing water solutions in developing countries.
  • Our system works like a mini "municipal water treatment plant" (The Washington Post, 2010) and can purify more than 10,000 gallons of water per day, which is enough for 5,000 people and the equivalent of 22,000 bottles of water.
  • Our systems provide a greener system than bottles and are sustainable-it's the difference between safe water for hours versus safe water for a lifetime.
  • Volunteers or staff can assemble our water system on site in less than two hours.
