Staff Transitions in Haiti

Each day, more progress is made in Haiti. Two more water treatment systems were installed today. One system was placed at the Evangelical Community Church in the Delmas 75 region of Port au Prince. The other system is providing safe water for thousands of refugees at Office de la Protection du Citoyen near the center of the city. With today’s installations, clean, safe water is now flowing from 19 systems in the Port-au-Prince area. Together, these systems have the capability to purify enough drinking water for the daily needs of 95,000 disaster victims.

Within the coming days, Water Missions International will be working to transition staff on the ground in Haiti. Some of our relief team members have been in Port-au-Prince since the day of the quake working around the clock to provide safe water to survivors. Needless to say, they in much need of rest. To help with our ongoing efforts, four WMI staff from Honduras will be arriving to Port-au-Prince this Saturday. This will be a tremendous boost to our relief efforts and will allow our Charleston based staff to return to the U.S.

In other news, WMI is still in need of some help aquiring much needed equipment and tools. Please see the wish list below and contact us if you or someone you know may be able to help.

  • Light-duty, all-terrain forklift (goods are currently being moved with a makeshift bobcat)
  • Air transport for people to and from Port-au-Prince International Airport
  • Modular buildings - office, housing, baths, etc… (We are looking for something already constructed that we can ship in and have setup immediately. An installation crew would be helpful as well)
